Mikah Macarro Scholarship “What’s Next”
Josephine Chia was raised and farmed on Whidbey Island. She grew up pulling crab pots and sweating in ferry lines with the best of them. She found her people in the Whidbey Island Orchestras, drama enthusiasts, Honors/AP students, and foreign exchange participants within this tight-knit island community. She considers herself a violinist, budding Spanish speaker, and curious student formed after the stellar example of her mentors and loved ones on the Island. Thanks to the support of this loving community, she can reach the ever-higher goals she sets for herself and her future.
She graduated Salutatorian from South Whidbey High School and will continue exploring life and learning to name the world at the University of Washington. Admitted to the Interdisciplinary Honors program, Josephine aims to graduate with College Honors. She is excited to explore the worlds of physics and math at the collegiate level and plans to continue haunting the music scene. Though unsure of where her future career might lie, Josephine’s passion for academics rests in science, which continually shakes how we see the world. Most of all, Josephine can’t wait to connect with a broader community of critical thinkers and expand her web of empathy and knowledge.
